Sing- Along The Taming of the Shrew OR That’s What You Get For Lovin’ Me, May 30, 31 and June 1

pr pix for Taming of ShrewSing- Along The Taming of the Shrew OR That’s What You Get For Lovin’ Me is Woodwalk Gallery’s fifth annual fractured classic production to be presented Thursday May 30, Friday the31st and Saturday June 1.  All productions are at 7:00 and are followed by a mead libation reception.

Although William Shakespeare would hardly recognize his classic play, all the play’s characters are present, the setting is still 16th century England and the intrigue to marry off the not-so-lovely and potentially-extremely-hard- to-live-with Kate is the plot.  However, all who attend the play become included in the play’s troop of traveling troubadours and have a say about Kate’s fate and whether or not she is a willing participant in her future or an unwilling victim of the conventions of the time.

As with each year the cast is headlined by Leif and Jennifer Erickson playing respectfully (yes, really) Kate and Petruchio.  They are joined by the ever trying-to-get-it-right Lockwood Family Players.  When the audience sings-along with the musical numbers, they will be joining Mark Moede as The Man in Black in singing such classics as “Ring of Fire”, “O Lonesome Me”, “If I Were A Carpenter” and “That’s What You Get For Lovin’ Me”.  Words are provided so it is like singing in the shower fully dressed with 80 other people.  The production is only a little bawdy so children are invited.

Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling 920-868-2912.

Birds flying, birds hunting, birds watching, birds living in mystery, birds nesting in your dreams… Birds of a Feather opens our 2013 season with a reception, Sunday, May 26, 4:30- 6:30.  Everyone is invited with music provided by Pamela Johnson, hors d’oeuvres by Wisconsin Cheese Masters of Egg Harbor and Jeremy Stichman of dcfloral in Sturgeon Bay promises a fantasmic floral creation to highlight the reception.

Eight of Woodwalk’s “flock” of 48 artists have contributed to the show which also features my New Works.   The featured artists include highly realistic images of birds by Jan Comstock, playful sculptural birds in flight by Robin Fleming, decorative birds and houses by Jim Rericha, a beautiful bronze heron by Kirsten Christiansen, crows being crows by Jeanne Kuhns (of Lost Moth Gallery), and Deborah Lader’s (she’s also songstress in Sons of the Neverwrong). Flying in just for the Birds Of A Feather show are magnificent, hand carved duck decoys by D.S. Sully.

My new works feature an ethereal landscapes  Reflections series of light playing through trees onto imagined fields of color and motion…. water? grain? earth? My paintings are an invitation to remember and to walk into the space with your senses- eyes and ears and nose- wide open to mystery and reflection.  They establish a remembered space apart when it was peaceful and enveloping.

Tom Maakestad featured artist of the month

Old Orchard by Tom Maakstad

Old Orchard by Tom Maakstad

Plein aire painter Tom Maakestad is this month’s featured artist.  Tom is a familiar road-side figure to those who travel the back roads of Door County.  He makes the old feel new, the familiar feel more loved, the undiscovered place feel like home.  Obviously a perfect “fit” for Woodwalk…

Margaret’s Wall 2013

12-15-2012 Margaret's Wall

Once again this year, on most Monday mornings I’ll post a photo of my painting wall so you can watch paintings happen from blank canvass to finished painting.  Sometimes it goes quickly, other times I’ll start two or three at the same time and work on them as a group.  Right now I’m inspired by submissions to the Wisconsin Triennial andtaking better care of myself heath-wise, i.e. trying to quit smoking :(

It is that time again when I’m winding down commissions and concentrating on work for the “New Works and Birds of A Feather” opening show.  Gallery opens May 3… 54 weeks away.  It’s been a beautiful winter, lots of snow…. Artists’ work starts arriving in 3 weeks then a quick trip to the East Coast to see grandkids and the season starts.
